Additional Enrollment Opportunities

Concurrent Enrollment. Undergraduate students who are in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA, not on probation) and who are enrolled in 12 or more units at UCSB during the term in which they are concurrently enrolled and seeking credit for external coursework, are not required to obtain a Concurrent Enrollment Petition from their College. UCSB students who are concurrently enrolled during a regular session and who are not in good academic standing and/or are enrolled in fewer than 12 units at UCSB are required to obtain an Approved Concurrent Enrollment Petition and receive approval from their College. Students who are considering concurrent enrollment should contact their College for advising. For the purpose of Concurrent Enrollment, undergraduate students pursuing majors in two colleges or schools at UCSB, such as Engineering and Letters and Science or Creative Studies and Letters and Science, are subject to the approval of both deans of the colleges or schools involved.

Graduate students may enroll at another college-level institution while pursuing a graduate degree at UCSB without the approval of the dean of the Graduate Division. See the section Transfer of Credit under Graduate Education at UCSB for information on the rules governing the transfer of credit at UCSB. Graduate students enrolled in two or more colleges or schools at UCSB may participate without the approval of the dean of the Graduate Division.

Intercampus Transfer. Undergraduates may apply for transfer to another University of California campus. The Application for Undergraduate Admission is available online at apply.universityofcalifornia.edu/my-application/login. To ensure admission consideration, students should file their applications during the appropriate filing period.

Undergraduate students who are or have been enrolled in a regular UCSB quarter may apply for an intercampus transfer to another UC campus provided no subsequent registration in a regular term at another collegiate institution has occurred. A non-refundable fee is required at the time of application. Application filing periods are listed in the “Deadlines” section.

Intercampus Visitor Program (ICV). The ICV Program allows qualified undergraduate students at UCSB to take advantage of educational opportunities at other UC campuses. Note: The host campus pays for the visiting student’s financial aid. If you are a financial aid recipient, you must have a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) sent to the host campus. To make this change, access your FAFSA information online at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.

UC Online Cross-Campus Enrollment Program. Students who meet the Simultaneous Enrollment eligibility requirements above may enroll in an online course across the UC system through the Cross-Campus Enrollment program. No additional tuition is required; however, some courses may require additional fees such as course materials or proctoring fees. The units and grades for the course will automatically transfer to UCSB and will appear on the UCSB transcript and be factored into the UCSB GPA.

To obtain pre-major, major, and/or General Education credit for a course taken through the Cross-Campus Enrollment program students must submit a petition AFTER they complete the course. Students will not obtain pre-major, major, or General Education credit for most courses. Therefore, it is suggested that students consult with their college or major department for more information before enrolling in an online course. Enrollment in UC Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) courses. A student who wishes to complete courses through UCSB Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) must obtain prior approval by petition to the dean of the student’s college. With the exception of UCSB Open University courses, UCSB PaCE courses are not included in determining grade point averages. If accepted toward a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree, UCSB courses completed by Open University through UCSB PaCE in fall 2000 or later will be used to calculate a student’s UC grade-point average. Courses completed through UCSB PaCE do not apply toward academic residence requirements.

Undergraduates are not eligible to complete courses by Open University through UCSB PaCE if they were subject to disqualification or dismissed from the University at the end of their last regular quarter at UCSB. UCSB PaCE courses in the X1-X199 series may be accepted in fulfillment of unit requirements upon petition to the student's college. Transfer of these units for fulfilling subject requirements will be determined by the usual procedures governing the evaluation of credits gained at other acceptable institutions. Degree credit is not given for UCSB PaCE courses in the X800 series.

UCSB PaCE courses may apply to graduate degrees only if approved by the Graduate Council. UCSB PaCE courses other than courses taken through Open University may apply to graduate degrees only with the prior approval of the Graduate Division and the academic department. See the section Transfer of Credit under Graduate Education at UCSB for information on the rules governing the transfer of credit from UC Professional and Continuing Education.
