Discovery Seminars

UCSB is a place where people make knowledge. This happens in classrooms, studios, laboratories, museums, and workshops; it happens as faculty and students collaborate on big questions with answers yet to be discovered. Discovery Seminars offer opportunities for students (first year, and transfer) to learn about how this knowledge-making takes place and how to become part of it. Small group courses, taught by UCSB faculty members, enroll between 20-40 students and P/NP grading. Seminars are open to all eligible freshman and transfer students (as determined by the seminar type), regardless of campus college or major.

First Year Exploration Seminars/Transfer Exploration Seminars
1 unit seminars with 10 hours of instruction time.

First Year Discovery+ Seminars/Transfer Discovery+ Seminars
2 unit courses with TWO instructors. Instruction totals 20 hours.
