Course Description

Do atheists believe in anything? If so, what? Is a religious atheist an oxymoron?This course explores what atheism is and how its changed over time. It also introduces students to related forms of nonbelief, such as agnosticism, humanism, and freethought. By looking at the wide variety of atheisms, a fascinating story emerges about what it means to believe, behave, and belong in religious and nonreligious ways.
