SOC 10 - Logics of Sociological Inquiry

Sociology College of Letters and Science

Full Course Title

Logics of Sociological Inquiry

Instructor Name(s)

TBA

Course Description

Central to the course is a review of major sociological research traditions, including but not limited to: experiments, surveys, observational studies, ethnography, interviews, focus groups, and analysis of available data, including online sources and other digital media. Exposing and training students who intend to major in sociology to the research methods that sociologists use to create knowledge facilitates an understanding of the connection between theory and research, develops critical thinking skills by teaching students how to evaluate sociological knowledge, and lays the groundwork for our upper-division coursework, in particular our upper-division “hands-on” methods courses (108 series).
