Course Description

Students will study evolutionary adaptation as a source for inspiration, extracting design principles to leverage the functionality, adaptability, and robustness of biological systems. The course focuses on Biologically Inspired Design in Fluids to advance student knowledge of natural strategies and facilitate quantitative analysis of the proposed solutions. Over the quarter, the students will learn how biological systems deal with fluids and the bio-inspired design process. The course includes lectures, case studies, and design activities. The final projects aim to share bio-inspired design through STEM programs for K-6 students. We recommend that students take ME152A prior to taking this course.
