Class will explore the Star Wars franchise as an American phenomenon that became an international powerhouse by considering it in relation to the following: the origins of the blockbuster and the development of the super-blockbuster; George Lucas's inspiration and auteur influences; the significance of the franchise for subsequent Star Wars auteurs; and in terms of the franchise's enormous critical and fan responses.
