Course Description

Overview of volcanic processes, including physical properties of melts, eruptive mechanisms, classification of volcanic deposits, and volcanic- tectonic environments. Lecture emphasizes theoretical aspects of volcanic processes, lab examines major classes of volcanic rocks, field trips emphasize mapping in volcanic terrains. Typically includes one to two overnight trips of 2-4 days each.
