Exploration of the main theoretical orientations that have shaped Asian American studies; race and ethnicity, diasporas, international labor migration, etc. Introduction to several methodologies, including historiography, quantitative social science, literary criticism and ethnography.

This seminar is designed for highly motivated students who are interested in research and writing. Students are expected to pursue their own research interests, select a research topic, conduct original research, and craft a 15-page paper using original sources.

Prerequisites

Upper-division standing. Instructor approval required.
