Special Topics in Asian American Studies - Social Science and History

Instructor Name(s)

Course Description

What happens to our understanding of environmentalism when we center the experiences of Asian Americans? This course begins with the premise that the call for environmental justice is part of a broader call to revisit our covenant to the world, our relationships to it, and our responsibilities to one another. Approaching environmental justice through an Ethnic Studies lens requires an engagement with racial justice and decolonial struggles to reckon with the harmful ideological and economic forms of resource extraction. For Asian American communities, whose environmental entanglements are all but erased, this is more pressing than ever.
