Program Description
The Latin American and Iberian Studies Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara is devoted to the study of the peoples of Latin America and Iberia, from antiquity to the present day, and of their diasporas in Africa, Asia, and the Americas — including the Latino/a communities of the United States. LAIS students examine a diversity of themes and issues — including history, religion, politics, gender, language, literature, music, and performance — drawing on a broad range of disciplines across the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and more. Working with over 60 faculty affiliates across campus, LAIS students have access to an unparalleled diversity of approaches and methods, obtaining rich interdisciplinary training as preparation for a wide variety of careers beyond the university or in further study.
