Program Description
The History of Art and Architecture Department offers a combined M.A./Ph.D. degree, although applicants holding a Master’s in art, architectural history, or a related discipline may be admitted directly into the Ph.D. program depending on qualifications. The department does not offer a terminal M.A. degree. We offer students highly individualized study across a broad historical and geographical range of topics. In our excellent Art, Design & Architecture Museum, students explore regularly rotating exhibitions and can also acquire hands-on training in museum work by curating exhibitions. Graduate students are also encouraged to take courses outside the department, including courses in Chicana/o Studies, Film and Media Studies, and Religious Studies.
