Program Description
The composition program at UC Santa Barbara is recognized internationally for its innovation, fine instruction, and performance resources in contemporary art music. It aims to educate high-level professionals with the capacity to pursue a successful career as composers, researchers, and teachers. The program teaches you to adapt to the constant changes in the relationship between the composer and academic institutions, society, technology, and professional life. We maintain high standards for the composition and performance of new music and offer students excellent opportunities for pursuing research. The diverse backgrounds of the composers in the Department contribute to a lively atmosphere. The result is a cosmopolitan perspective on the current international scene.
