Declaring Candidacy
All candidates for undergraduate degrees must declare their candidacy for graduation on GOLD no later than the second week in the quarter in which the degree is anticipated. Declaring candidacy on GOLD is the only way to officially graduate and receive your degree and diploma from UCSB. See specific deadlines on the Office of the Registrar website. In order to graduate at the end of a given quarter, students must complete all work necessary for the fulfillment of degree requirements by the end of that quarter. For transfer work to be applied to a student's record, official transcripts must be received before the degree is finalized. Transcripts received after the degree is finalized will not be evaluated and credit will not be awarded. Students who find that they are not eligible to graduate as planned must withdraw candidacy for that quarter on GOLD. Students must then declare candidacy on GOLD for the new date of graduation. The student will not be considered a candidate for a degree until such action is taken. For more information on Graduation, please visit the Office of the Registrar website.
Graduate students must communicate their intent to graduate with their academic department in order to begin the process of a degree check. This process is finalized by the Graduate Division.
